The course is in great condition and, with the build-out of the new facility, will be great for years to come.
I have golfed here many times over the last few months. I had never had any problems. The course is generally in very good shape and easy to book a tee time. However, I recently played on a Wednesday afternoon and had such a bad experience that I will not return.
Despite the slow two-somes in front of me and the multiple 5-somes nearly hitting me from behind on every hole I managed to keepy cool.
However, a Marshall approached me on the 17th hole to address MY pace of play. I was by myself and shot an 84. Certainly not professional, but I move very quickly. At no point did the twosome (who failed to ever hit further than 100 yards) in front of me allow me to pass.
After I finally finished my 18 I went into the temporary proshop to mention my concerns about pace of play/ multiple fivesomes/the aggressive marshalls. I was told that I was driving my cart on/behind greens. This was completely untrue. I have worked at golf courses (much nicer than Woodforest). I know the rules. I have golfed for years. I hit nearly every green (never long, ocassionaly short) and didn't even have a reason to drive behind a green. I suspect they confused me with someone else.
When I mentioned this to the young man in the pro shop he told me to leave and said he was CALLING THE POLICE. Obviously I was quite upset. I am not a member but between myself, my family, and friends we have spent thousand of dollars at this course. Not only the audacity of the allegations but the absolute rudeness of the staff has ensured that I will not return.
Beautifully kept greens, fairways, and even the rough. I mean, I didn't see a blade of grass out of place. Greens are tournament-like and played very fast, which was a fun change and experience. The Front Nine and West Nine were not very difficult playing from the whites, but there are two tees behind that would significantly increase the course length. Also, it looks like the Back Nine is the most difficult of the 3, incorporating more golf and strategically-places sand traps.
It was $90 for the weekend round, which is high, but even with that I'd say it was more than worth it. Also, they have deals from time to time it looks like. Giving it 5 stars because of the sheer beauty and maintenance of the course. Great day.
This golf course is OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. Good value and the staff is really sweet. No one judges you and they just want you to have a good time. Some of the other golf courses are pretentious and they don't make you feel welcome. I agree with Tanner M. -- they a full bar and food inside where they can grill up a tasty burger.
Also, check in with the staff and ask about upcoming events you can attend!
Course is always in great shape.
Greens putt true. If you miss the putt, it's your own fault! lol
Only complaint is not so bad, the greens drain great. So, they are always pretty firm, even after rain. But, everything around the greens, especially the approaches are always way to wet and soft, making it fairly frustrating when you hit a great shot, even with a wedge, high and with good spin that lands on the front and rolls out. But, if it lands short it either plugs or just about plugs.
See, like I said, not so bad. But, a course of this quality should be able to manage irrigation a little better.
