I am quite happy to have joined! My gf and I joined WRGC in August 2013 as we moved into the area right across the street from the club. We wanted to establish new social networks and play golf a few times a month in between our busy schedules. We were surprised at the low initial fees to join and have had no regrets.
Weekend breakfast buffet is decent (sausage, bacon, fruit, omelets made to order, eggs Benedict made to order, pastries, etc), and the occasional weekday dining we've done makes for a peaceful quiet experience with good service. Food quality, from sandwiches to prime rib have been excellent. They have frequent social events also; we attended a member mixer which was fun, and then Oktoberfest where they had a live rock band, craft beer booths, and of course german food which made for a fun afternoon.
Staff is top notch, they are all friendly and do a superb job of providing service. Mark at the pro shop even worked hard to get us a tee time at another course last minute during a time Wood Ranch was closed for re-seeding. Aaron and Kailey have also been very engaging and helpful.
The golf course is amazing, but it's tough! Not for the faint of heart. It's long, narrow, water often looming and has 78 bunkers; all of which I think I've landed in. The average golfer with shoot 5 to 10 strokes higher on this course compared to other easier courses in the area; so don't get discouraged. But if you play the course often you'd get bored if it was easy right?
There is a quarterly minimum spend on food/drink, which if you eat there two or three times a quarter you will reach no problem. You can also bring non members to eat and for social events which is cool.
5 stars for WRGC!
Linda and the team at Wood Ranch are a JOY to work with! I was so lucky to get to know them while photographing a wedding there. Linda was so accommodating and helpful with photo location suggestions and did everything she could to enhance the experience for the bride and groom. I'm looking forward to working with Wood Ranch again in the near future!
I joined the club this past summer. Love the environment and the course. The staff is super friendly, and the members are friendly and approachable. Me and my friends who are also members are having a great time, and our families are enjoying the social events at the club house. My feeling is that the club is getting even better.
Great course & great staff! Just moved to Simi couple months ago and was looking at local clubs to join. I called Wood Ranch to find out the info was directed to the membership director James Collis. What a guy! He immediately asked the right questions and scheduled a tour to view the facility. As soon as I got there I was welcomed by wonderful staff and was sent to James. What I thought was going to be a 15 minute tour ended up being a hour and a half of pure enjoyment. James introduced me to members as well as other staff members.
The course was amazing! The greens had a great true color and fairways were alright. The only complaint was the driving range was next to the first tee which wasnt that big of a deal. The fairways looked tight but were kept up pretty good. Cant wait to play.
The facilitys were awesome. There practice facilty was great. Theres a big bunker and chipping area to help out your short game. Mens locker room was what you expect. Very spacious but kind of outdated. Pro shop was great. All the stuff in there seemed good quality and cheaper then most golf stores. Also the golf pro in there was very attentive and seemed like a cool guy. Great sports bar with tvs and good menu.
The main ball room seemed very plush. Looked like a great place to have a wedding reception. Everything was great! Now all I need to do is get the wifes approval. Cant wait to be a member and do this.
I never thought I'd get to 100 Yelp reviews but thanks to fellow Yelpers Michael S. and Marko M., I have been able to stay motivated to earn an Elite badge. I look forward to the rest of my 2012 Yelp journey and beyond. Thanks guys!
For my 100th review, I was fortunate to play Wood Ranch Golf Club because they were hosting a fundraiser for local Simi Valley elementary schools that was open to the public. Other than having an invite from a member, this was going to be a rare opportunity for me and my friends to play this particular private course.
A par 72, WRGC is a challenging course that consists of long par 5's, elevated tee boxes, and fast (but fair) greens. Definitely not one of the shortest courses locally but many of the holes requires golfers to think about their shots and not just employ the grip-it-and-rip-it philosophy. Many of the holes have dog-legs so players who can "shape" their shots can post a good score. The course is well maintained especially for the time of the year we played.
The staff at WRGC was very friendly and attentive to our needs. We did not see a cart attendant during our entire round, which we though was peculiar, but being that it was the winter/early spring time that could have been the reason why.
If you have the extra scratch to become a member at WRGC I would think it would be well worth the investment. If you're not as well off as others, like myself, and you have the opportunity to play here you will not be disappointed. Definitely one of the more challenging but fair courses I have played in Ventura County. My friends and I eagerly look forward to next years fundraiser!
