The Widow's is in great shape. The couse looks more and more like the link tracks in
Ireland. Played yesterday in the Police outing and had a great time. The views are over the top.
Bring some extra balls! Great golf at a reasonable price. Leave the driver at home!
If your an average golfer (or worse than average) this is not a fun place to play. It's not a forgiving course. You will lose golf balls in places you felt you shouldn't. One bounce in the rough usually results in an irretrievable ball. Plus, It's not in good shape and not worth $55 even if that does include a cart. Sorry to be so harsh.
If your're looking to shoot your best score ever, maybe you shouldn't play Widows Walk, although you will probably have some fun cursing your way through this course.
Like most people have mentioned, this course is not easy by any means despite the relatively short overall course length, due to the narrow fairways and well placed bukers. You really should try your best to keep your driver locked down in your bag for most of the round and try to work on some solid target golf. There aren't many places to bail out if you do hit an errant shot as the tall grass comes pretty close to the fairways, so a prememuim is definitely placed on accuracy versus distance off the tee. The course was in good condition and there are a few elevated tees that give you a chance to appreciate the scenery and ocean views, and since the rounds seemed to be spread out well the groups behind and in front of us didn't really come in to play.
This was a fun round and is definitely a good value for your dollar, and their attitude to bringing in outdoor drinks did seem pretty relaxed.
One thing that should be mentioned is that you should bring your bug spray and douse yourself good before your round. We came unprepared and started getting attacked in the parking lot, but bought some spray at the shop and the gnats all but disappeared.
This really is a great course, certainly one of the best on the South Shore and a good value. You will likely only need your driver on the Par 5s and maybe a few long Par 4s, but what Widow's lacks in length it makes up for with small fairways and plenty of tee shots which demand very good accuracy. Most players are going to donate some balls to the surrounding woods, that's just a given.
I think another review mentioned this, but it's definitely a chore to walk this course, I'd highly recommend taking a cart. Lots of up and down hills and sometimes some distance between holes. Also, this is another course where you can bring a cooler of beers or whatever and nobody is going to care, which is always a good thing.
