Walden on Lake Conroe is a very nice track. The layout is challenging even though not long. From the back tees, with their small greens, it will give your game a test for sure.
There are four holes that bring you to the lake. On the front side you will cross a small inlet of the lake on your second shot. If your tee shot is where it's supposed to be, it's a short or medium iron carry with the front of the green very close to the bulkhead holding the water back. Then on the back you head to the par five twelfth hole and if you're Bubba Watson, maybe you can get there in two!!! A very good tee shot will leave you a 250 yard carry over the lake to another bulk-headed green that feels like an island green. The bail out is to the left. But, then you'll have to chip to a downhill landing area heading back at the water! The thirteenth is a short, but challenging par three over the water that also feels like an island green. And the final "lake" hole is the tee shot over the water on the up hill par 4 fourteenth. You will have ample opportunity for "risk / reward" shots also.
The personnel is friendly and welcoming, with a nice pro shop.
I have only had a dog and a beer at the turn. So, no real comments on the restaurant. But, the staff there has also been very friendly and gets you in and out quickly while making the turn.
I have played three rounds here in the last month. It is my club's sister course. Spring conditions and maintenance are probably why I am only giving it 4 stars.
More rounds to come for sure!
