Disclaimer: I am not a member. I visited the Suburban Club on Thanksgiving as a guest. So I'm writing about my two hour, holiday experience only.
The facilities are very nice, and seemed new. There is a lot of parking, coat check, nice bathrooms, ADA access, etc. Dinner was served buffet style in the large room (not sure if it's always a dining room or if it was converted). We had turkey, crab and pumpkin soups, various salads, and a bunch of sides. I very much liked the sweet potatoes, but I'm a sweet potato lover.
My hosts said that in the past the dinner has been a little more opulent (ie oyster bar). But it was nice to see all the families together. The crowd definitely skews older, which is probably true of the membership base.
I think this was my first country club experience, so maybe they're all like this. But it was super obvious that all of the patrons were white (and older), and nearly all of the workers were black. It was a little off-putting to me... I've never been in a situation like that. But the workers were really nice and upbeat and the dinner closed down early-ish, so I hope they had a chance to go home to their families.
My great aunt is a member, so I was able to host my wedding at the Suburban Club. Their new event coordinator, Edna, was fantastic to work with and all of the staff really worked to make sure our day was perfect. The food was amazing, too!
