A lot of reviews you will find about this course around the web are old and do not reflect this courses current state. ITS AMAZING!
I've played all over Chicagoland and truly feel that The Bourne is one of the best courses around. It does not have the "golf" feel of say Cog Hill or Mistwood but the uniqueness of the course makes me almost want to keep it to myself! But this course needs some recent reviews to show it has changed over the years.
I played there this morning and would have to rate overall quality of fairways, greens, tees, etc. a 9/10. Very well taken care of and a nice driving range to get you started. Walking is not an option as there's lots of distance between some holes, but the rates cannot be beaten. $30 during the week and $40 on weekends with a cart.
Huge elevated tee boxes make you feel like your not in Illinois anymore, let alone the middle of farm country. Very fun and challenging course with lots of doglegs require precise shot making.
This course will have you coming back to conquer it again and again!
Hard to believe no one has ever reviewed this course. First off , this course is out in the country and hard to find. Once your there its a layout like no other in Illinois! Elevated Tee boxes( in Illinois? Rare!) . Rising fairways, doglegs, water, the views are always amazing. The fees are fair because while in recent years they are spending money to improve, the course has been in a state of transition. Prices always change but, well worth it. The bad, no practice green, yardage markers once non existant are still scarce. The ninth hole is nowhere near the clubhouse. There is spot they could have a lil hot dog stand, next to 10th tee box . It would make a killing. Ive played this place for years it used to be 9 holes. When 18 was almost ready I ran into the owner & I asked why they removed so much overgrowth? He said " this course is hard enough as 9. You want a 7 hr round for 18 ? He laughed."
I played it today and it was a 4 1/2 hr round ( usually 5 1/2) and they are working on 18 again probably lengthening it and adding water! It will be interesting.
5 star course if they had the amenities but the purpose is : to be in the country , not be as crowded as most courses, and simply enjoy the breathtaking views! So thats it! Great course but 3 stars of 5 and supposed to be that way. If you don't care about frills but , enjoy a tremendous challenge play here! Priced very reasonably. Bring a lot of balls!
