One word... WOW.
The scenery, that is. Telluride Golf Club is situated at 9500' above sea level, in Mountain Village, CO. It is one of the highest, if not the highest, golf courses in the United States. The scenery is just ridiculous here, with the lush forest and snow-capped peaks. It's like golfing in the Alps.
The course itself is short but interesting. A couple of the holes are a tad gimmicky, but it's not goofy golf either. Elevated tees are the rule rather than the exception, and that helps those of us who can't hit the ball very far feel very good about ourselves (that and the elevation!).
The best part? I showed up a 1PM for my 2PM tee time (twilight rates begin at 2PM), but since there was nobody else there, I was able to tee off a half hour early.
This was a completely different experience than the desert courses I am used to playing in Arizona. If you're in the San Juans during the summer, go ahead and block off an afternoon for some mountain golf here.
