Tamarack is a exceptional country club in Greenwich, CT. The golf course was designed by a legendary golf course architect Banks and over the years it has been improved and modernized. The clubhouse, pool and tennis courts are relatively new and first class. They have a great chef and a relaxed bar area including a portico overlooking the course that is fantastic on a summer night. The membership is relatively young, friendly, not stuffy and it is family friendly. They have a wonderful camp for members children in the summer. Club events include a July 4th family day, wine tasting diners and live bands. Best golf and country club in the area.
Although the club dates back to the 1920's, the facilities are brand new. The club house and pool complex have been constructed within the past 5 years and new tennis courts are in the works for the 2012 season. What makes this club outstanding in my eyes is the staff. Under the leadership of manager Brian Gillespie, the staff really shines. They address each member by name and are very polite and helpful without being obtrusive. The members are very congenial and laid back. The membership is diverse and much younger than most private clubs in the area. The food is very good and the Sunday buffets are bountiful. During the summer, it is quite nice to sit by the pool and have the staff serve cocktails and iced water. Truly, a special place without being stuffy.
