Thanks for reading my review. I would just like to point out the reason I mentioned course traffic as a concern on my original comment was not ment to be negative in any way. Swansea CC offers 2 great courses and they do a great job staffing it to keep the pace of game going at a fair speed.
However you need a tee time if you want to play there call before you go
The staff here is miserable, my tee time was postponed 45 minutes and I will never golf there again, easily the worst golf experience if my life..
Swansea CC is a solid 3.5 star golf course, so I'll round up to a 4 as the course was in excellent shape the date I played (10/11/13). It's the only course I know of that has four sets of tees (yellow/blue/white/red) but then some of the holes have blue/white combo tees between the white and blue. Huh? I don't entirely get it but I'm thinking it's because the yardage difference between the white and blue tees is 700 yards so on some of the holes you can play the blue/white combo if you want to play a hole a little longer/shorter (depending on if you're playing white or blue that day).
You pay at the bar which can be a bit confusing as I didn't recall any signage, but everyone we came into contact with was friendly and aside from a couple of holes on the back that were a little soggy that caused big divots, it was a very enjoyable round.
The course is beautiful. The service is nonexistent.
Showed up for the first time the other day hoping to walk on as a single. It took 10 minutes wandering around in the main entrance, a dark basement and all the way around the building before I finally interrupted a couple engrossed in conversation to ask where the pro shop is. "Oh, you wanna play? Check in at the bar." Uh, ok. Kinda cool actually, but no signage? Anyhow, I was told I could go off at 1, and a round would take 4.5 hours. Not too bad I thought, but I had to leave at 5:30 so rather than cut it close, I paid for 9. Lady told me to go to the starter. Starter was rude. She said I was with a couple of guys for a threesome and we teed off about 15 minutes late. There were 12 people on EVERY hole. 4 on the box, 4 on the fairway waiting, and 4 on the green getting ready to wait at the next hole. 8 minute separation doesn't work for anyone except the owners, who are also raking it in by using volunteer starters and marshals. The course was nice, but the sprinklers were turned on in front of us on EVERY hole leaving a soggy mess to hit out of every time. The maintenance man even made is wait on one hole so he could soak the tee box before we teed off. To top it all off, two hours into our round, the Marshall rolls up while we are getting ready to tee off on 7 and asks me who I am and what time I teed off. I tell him I am playing 9 and he tells me to finish 7-9 and tells the two guys I was with (who I really enjoyed meeting and playing with) to go to 10 and the come back to 7 after playing 10-18? The reason? The slow pace on the course was threatening team play set to begin on 10 and 1 in just a few minutes. I told the Marshall I wanted to stay with these guys and and play 10-12 and then go. I can't believe he didnt even ask. Just demanded that we totally mess up our pace. Then on 11, he rolls up and gives the guys I was playing with, rain checks for their trouble. Doesn't even look me on the face. Needless to say, I left the 12th hole and will never look back. If you like a rude and inconsiderate staff on your 6-hour round, Swansea country club is your place.
One of the top public courses in the area. They feature a 18 hole championship course and a 9 hole par 3. I had a membership to the par 3 this past year very reasonable at $500 with the membership you can play the 18 hole course in twighlight hours.
Only set back on this course is traffic. This place is loaded with leagues and tournaments so it can make it difficult at times. Overall great staff and nice course!
