I came here for an office dinner party. The place is spacious. We started off with drinks, cocktail shrimps, and bread. All of it was delicious. Then we moved over to a private room that accommodated our large group. I started off with she crab soup. I can't remember how it tasted but it was good. Entree I order the filet mignon with a side of pasta. It was not dry and good in portions. For dessert I got the creme brulee. I only ate part of it because I was getting full. I do love how crispy the top is.
This place can easily be missed when driving. Just remember the country club is in front of the shopping center that has a giant in it.
Great venue for an alumni event. The food was great (breakfast buffet) and nice facilities. Glad I was a guest and not a member...!
The golf course itself is great. Well-maintained with firm, but still soft greens that will hold a long iron. Not sure what they roll at, but the greens are true and can be lightening fast on a windy day when the greens have been cut and rolled. Recent improvements including new drainage, tree removal, and the addition of some new traps have made #5, #8, and #15 into new holes. Proshop has a small inventory, but has fitting days setup with most of the major lines. The driving range is OK. You hit off mats most of the time or during the season Bermuda. The Bermuda was planted to keep help the tee regrow quickly, but it's wirey and does not match the rest of the course (=fail). Putting green is nice but does not match the rest of the greens. Short game bunker and pitching area is great.
Tennis facility (has 3 indoor courts) and outdoor Har-Tru clay courts (2) are great although there is not much of a welcoming feel by tennis staff. Fitness area and classes are adequate, but clearly cater toward retirees and housewives rather than people that still work.
The pool is perfect. Good baby pool area, grassy area for corn hole games and kids to play during break. Small snack bar with adequate snacks and lite grilled options. Summer pool staff could be a bit more professional and the pool menu could be a bit fancier than burgers and chicken tenders.
Clubhouse is nice/adequate. Atmosphere is family-friendly and perhaps a bit more casual than other area country clubs. Food has improved, but can be inconsistent. Staff is friendly and for the most part proficient. There are certainly a few staff members that consistently perform above the others.
Members seem to come from all different walks of life and generally everyone is quite friendly.
For the price and amenities it is everything I would expect and much more.
Springfield was always my favorite course growing up here in the Fairfax area. And it still is!
sg&cc was a great find! i had my wedding at sg&cc this past may and couldn't be happier with the food, service, staff, and over-all experience. i went all over the dc area looking for a space that was big enough, a good price, and not a typical reception. although it was on the "cookie-cutter" side, sg&cc let us rent long tables and transform the space. jennifer, the event planner, is extremely nice and pleasant to work with. my guests all had rave reviews of the reception.
