I planned and hosted a company party at Sierra La Verne Country Club in Jan of 2014. Mary and her staff are very professional and helped me a lot through the planning process. I also really love this location! Situated in the hills of La Verne on a Golf Course, it really is a beautiful venue. As for the food, everyone loved it! We ordered southwest eggrolls as appetizers and chicken marsala as our entree. Everything was delicious! Overall, I am extremely satisfied and I will continue to book my company party with Sierra Le Verne.
This review is in regards to their event department with their handling of our wedding. I have never golfed at this location and cannot give any review in regards to that.
My wife and I lived in the area and were looking for a wedding site that had a great view and was accommodating with our vision for our special day. We met with Theresa in the event department after several exchanged emails. She seemed friendly and accommodating. The view from the golf club was also very nice considering it has the mountain back drop. We placed a deposit and were happy with our decision.
However, after placing our deposit, we realized shortly after that the friendly service we experienced was not the norm for the event department. Our next experience was with Mary, their head event planner. She seemed disinterested in our needs, rushed our questions, and also dismissed some of our concerns. One of the major concerns we had was the discrepancy between the contract and what they were telling us. We were under the impression that we could bring our own chair vendor (which no where in the contract states you can't). We were told verbally we "should" since not on the contract but after contract was signed was told this was not the case.
This, however, was not our only bad experience. We also asked for broad measurements on the banquet room just to have an idea for our DJ quotes for up lighting. They refused to give us any type of measurement whatsoever.
Lastly, an area that we were told we could use for our reception area during our tour was suddenly off limits. Apparently instead of this being our wedding, it transformed after the contract into being Mary's wedding.
We canceled over 6 months before our wedding and was told we would receive our deposit back (since we believe it was their breach of contract) after the wedding day when they have their event.
Without surprise, they kept our deposit after stating they were not able to book an event when we canceled more than 6 months ago. Considering they have done absolutely no footwork in preparing for our wedding, it was a big slap to the face and adding salt to our wounds.
A wedding is a special and memorable event. My recommendation is to have it at a venue that values you. Do not pick this venue.
The service is lacking and from their lack of contact or a return call, it seems they don't seem to really care.
The course is short and tend to play the exact same clubs repeatedly. The fairways are pock marked with kids playing baseball in the fairway and softball size divots.
The vast majority of those playing golf are overwhelmingly of one ethnicity for some reason - why? I have no issue with any race ethnicity or color, but you have to ask why literally everyone is Asian here???
The practice range looks right into the sun and there's absolutely no shade.
Today I decided to write a review on Sierra La Verne Country Club.
Sierra La Verne Country is a full service private golf and social club located in the foothills of beautiful La Verne California. The club features a very nice Par 71 golf course, an excellent members only grill, a nice banquet facility and two different areas for outdoor weddings.
The Golf Course:
The course is a par 71, challenging track, with a fairly simple front 9 cut out of old orange groves and a very challenging back nine carved out of a canyon. The greens are fast and in excellent shape. The fairways are pretty good and the bunkers soft and well groomed.
Ken is the Head Pro in the golf shop and he has been with the club for close to 25 years. He has a nice pro shop with fantastic member prices. The driving range and all balls are included with your membership. As is a large practice chipping/sand trap green.
The men's club is large and very active with tournaments running every other week and skin games weekly.
The members grill serves excellent food at reasonable prices. There is a "special" buffet each Monday that offers a chefs choice entrée, starch, vegetable, soup, salad and desert for only $8.50! A better deal can not be had anywhere. All you can eat! The grill also offers Thursday/Fridays night specials as well and a nice little Sunday brunch.
They also offer free Prime Rib on the month of a member's birthday.
Membership fees right now are very reasonable. Just $1000 initiation and $335 a month with $240 quarterly restaurant Guarantee. Again, quite reasonable for a private club of the caliber of Sierra La Verne Country Club.
I am afraid I can not really comment on the Wedding Facilities or how well the club does for banquets. I hear they are very nice, but since I have not been to one, I can not really say with any first hand knowledge.
Stop on by Sierra La Verne Country Club and have a look. I really think you will be happy you did!
We had our wedding here and it was amazing. The night was perfect, from the flowers, to the food, the DJ and most of all, our family and friends energy. To the venue, we really liked the views. I didn't want a plain four walled reception site and Sierra La Verne was lovely. Although I don't like the ugly railing on the outside patio. In my opinion it ruined pics. Mary was very nice and professional but we did feel that they tried to nickel and dime us through the entire process. Everything is an extra charge. Their standard napkin fold is a fan, I preferred it folded it in half hanging over the table, they tried to charge us extra?!? I wanted guests greeted with champagne and Mary suggested making it a signature cocktail meaning adding a splash of juice to turn it pink, that was an extra charge even though we had already paid for a premium open bar?? We worked through it but if you book here be prepared to exceed your budget with everything you need to "add on". Also, the ceilings are really low which affects any lighting you might want to have. Speaking of lighting, we paid a pretty penny for up lighting but the venue has so many windows and natural light you couldn't even see our lighting touches until much later in the evening. Overall we did have a great night but doing it over again we probably could've chosen somewhere else for less.
