Update: We went here for dinner on our one year anniversary and the food was excellent! Filet Mignon and Chicken Fracaise. Not sure if they got a new chef, but I'm happy the food was as good as the view!
My family and I have fallen into a tradition of eating here each year for Easter Brunch. The location is close to my house which is convenient since the servers are usually generous with the champagne. It is ONLY the constant flow of champagne combined with the absolutely amazing view that earn this restaurant 4 stars.
The food is mediocre at best, and I'm being nice because I'm a local. Think Denny's quality, but on a day when half the kitchen staff is out sick. This year in particular, the lamb was ice cold, the waffles were stone hard, and I could smell the shrimp from the front entrance. The few foods worth eating were the eggs benedict, which are consistently average and eatable, the Tri Tip which was warm only if you timed it right, and of course the country potatoes which are fairly difficult to really screw up.
But again, this is brunch - right? So the bubbles, and the view, and the stimulating conversation that always surrounds my table are enough to overlook the food. Which is why we will probably end up here next year on Easter Sunday.
I have eaten here on a non-holiday Sunday brunch and my review is the same. I cannot comment on dinner, the bar, or the golf course.
My wife and I were new to the area and some locals told us about this place. The good things were: beer was $3.50/pint, amazing view of the lake & the server & staff were friendly. The bad: The food. We got the crab cakes for $11...only gave us 3 little cakes. The Eggplant fries seemed like they were frozen...pretty generic.
We weren't too impressed :-/
I'm a brunch fan and this review reflects that. I have not had dinner or visited the bar or the pools. I've been to brunch several times in the last few years. Most recently last weekend (August 2012). Like many brunches, location is king and the reason for being. I am neutral on the brunch...nothing outstanding but nothing awful. Bubbles, eggs, potatoes and a killer view. That 's what I wanted and that's what I got. The service was good...met all requests and no issues. I'll go back to appreciate the views and show off our lake to visitors.
Bad place to golf. The grass is dead, mostly dirt on the hill. Frogs living in the cups. Wonderful view of the lake, however. But a true quote from Mark Twain - "Golf is a good walk spoiled". Well, trying to golf here truly is...
Do not bother trying to golf here.
