Great golf course - well maintained and mostly fantastic people. The head professional is anything but a professional.
What an absolute let down playing here was. I have heard great things about the course and the condition of the course was fantastic. That being said, it was so painfully slow, that my playing partner and I left after 7 holes which took over two hours to get through on a MONDAY!!! Monday you ask, yes Monday... not the weekend, MONDAY!!!!
They were putting groups off too fast and there was no good marshaling going on at all. We were paired up with two guys that were hitting 2-3 balls off every tee, topping and chunking shots all the way to the green and we were still getting bunched up behind a group on every tee. It was getting slower with each hole, no end in sight. At one point, I looked at a tee box behind us a few holes and there was 2 groups of foursomes waiting to tee off. That is completely unacceptable in my mind, just terrible management.
Terrible let down for what could have been a great course to play. I will NEVER go back there again, even for free.
My favorite course EVER!!! Loved it!!! Awkwardly, it is not the most difficult, water filled extravagant course. It is very classic, overall normal fun course. It is challenging but great course maintenance.... LOVED it!!!!
Great course - crappy management. Make sure you give yourself 5 hours to play it. Never saw a marshal once in my 5 hours while guys dawdled along. Major bummer.
Love the layout of Dunes... and the condition of the course is great for a public.
I've played the Dunes a few times now over the past 4 years, and I like it, don't love it for some reason, and can't totally figure out why. It's a nice course. Pro shop is nice. Restaurant is ok. I think what I may not love is that it always feels really crowded and busy, like a "destination course" or something.
Could be better:
Pace is only okay on the weekends. Played 9 in 2.5 hours most recently and just left. *But the pro shop was super cool and gave us a voucher for the other 9*
Service. Some water jugs were out on the course and we only saw the cart girl once in 2.5 hours.
It's a fine course, worth playing... just not my favorite.
