One of the top 2 public courses in Nebraska along with Wildhorse. By far the best one in the Eastern part of the state. Probably the best 18 hole layout you will find as well. I still remember the first time I stepped foot on the place... I was absolutely amazed. I had my girlfriend along who didn't golf at the time so was only planning on playing 9, but, I was sooooo impressed that I talked her into 18. My strong recommendation would be to play Quarry either before or after the heat of the Nebraska summers. When it is either spring or fall, the course seems to be in immaculate condition, but, the hot summers do take their tole on it. They do get their fair share of tourneys, so make sure to call ahead before driving there. #17 is one of the top holes in the state. Definitely a "must-play" if you are in the Lincoln/Omaha area.
This is definitely the most enjoyable public course in Nebraska. The word "enjoyable" is fairly relative but for me it sums up four things: challenging layout, impeccable conditions, isolation, scenery. This is probably the toughest course I have ever played. You don't know what "rough" is until you have played here, it's so thick and snarly you really need to get lucky to get a good lie. Lots of bunkers, winding fairways, water on several holes, and enough elevation changes to make you question what state you are in.
The best thing about this course is the isolation, I have never felt so secluded on a golf course. There are no houses or roads in sight, and best of all the holes are so spread out that there is literally no chance of someone getting on your fairway from another hole. The views here are also tremendous. I found myself standing on teeboxes and fairways just looking around instead of hitting the ball. It was a gorgeous day. You are bound to see some deer and wild turkey, as several holes run right along the edge of the river. Only downside to that there is a train track next to the river as well, so I suppose some loud trains could potentially roll by, but it wasn't a problem for me!
If you haven't spoiled yourself with 18 holes at Quarry Oaks, do yourself a favor and check it out. You may shoot the worst score of your life, but I bet you will be impressed with the course.
Great looking course. Very good condition for daily fee with an interesting and varied layout. Several holes play on Bluff adjacent to platte river. Great elevation changes makes it hard to believe you're in nebraska. If you're in Omaha definitely drive the 30 minutes towards Lincoln to play. This may or may not be a top 100 you can play nationally but if it isn't it is close.
I enjoyed Quarry, the course was in great shape and the staff were great. One of the best things about the course is location, its not surrounded by homes or roads so it is very quiet on the course. You feel all alone! Well stocked bar and a great burger! Recommend to every golfer heading up through Nebraska on I80.
Not easy to find- take the same exit as Lake Mahoney and SAC headquarters, but go south instead of north. Pass the Safari and turn left at the next road. Great course in an old quarry - gorgeous landscaping. We had lunch in the grill. Seriously the BEST patty melt I've ever had. Fantastic service. We try to stop every time we go through the area.
