The course was in good shape and the layout was very nice. I played from the white tees, which was enough of a challenge without being too easy. After a five hour round though, I don't think I'll be coming back anytime soon. For an almost $50 round, I expect the rangers to enforce the pace of play policies.
Great golf course that is kept in terrific shape. You must stay for Mike the Chef's incredible BBQ brisket that is smoked right outside of the restaurant.
I've never played the course even though I basically live next door. But I went to go hit balls today and thought it would be nice to grab a sandwich as well.
I was hungry for anything so I asked the waitress for a recommendation. She said the BBQ brisket and pork is smoked in house. My jaw dropped. A golf course that smokes their own meat? Unheard of.
This BBQ brisket sandwich came out on a pretzel roll and it was STACKED and not slathered in sauce. Absolutely wonderful. Cole slaw was also very tasty. $10 for that sandwich.
Can't wait to go back
The course is ok. It's a public course right next to Statesville Prison so what can you say. But the best kept secret ever is the restaurant!? The guy who runs the place is a Q master. I kid you not, his brisket is as good as or better than anything being served in Chicago. His pulled pork is masterful. Their chicken wings are really good and he has a boneless paremsan wing that is to die for. Ribs? Fantastic! Even their nachos have some slow cooked meat mixed in. This guy ( I have to find out his name) has rigged up his own barrel smoker and boy does he know how to use it. The servers are a bunch of cute, friendly locals. It may be out of the way but if you're ever out near Lockport it would be well worth it to stop in just for the food. This place is an undiscovered gem.
