Course is in good shape. I would definitely recommend calling to see how crowded course is on weekends. Today it is full of children. Guess that's what you get on Muni course.
Worst ownership ever, I went to play there last week with my father. We had one bag between the two of us since we were on vacation and didn't have room for another bag. As we waited for 20 minutes to tee off behind older women and kids under that age of 7 teeing off only 5 feet (on a 60 yard first hole) there was a starter who it would have been impossible for him to not notice us with 2 players and one bag. He waited until we tee'd off and immediately began yelling at us in front of about 20 other players (many women and children) waiting to tee off saying "HEY YOU GET OVER HERE!" to my dad and continued yelling in our faces that we cant use 1 bag and that we must go inside and rent a bag or "get out". It was very uncomfortable and rude. Once we went back inside to see if we could get a refund we were then yelled at by another older man there saying that there were signs saying we needed 1 bag per player. Asking where they were he stepped aside and in the back corner of the "pro shop" at the bottom of a large board it stated that every player needed his own bag. He refused to refund us even though we had politely asked and told him we didn't notice the sign. There were at least 200 people playing on a 12 hole course mind you. Had we actually gotten to play it would have easily taken over 4 hours for a 12 hole round. I understand this was a rule and we did not notice it but thought it would be nice of him to refund us but instead we were treated with more disrespect than at any establishment I've ever been at. I would never recommend anyone ever go here as there's a nicer 9 hold course with carts just off of rt 9 south with a much nicer owner. Don't bother wasting your time here I wouldn't recommend this course to anyone at all especially how we were treated the other day.
The course was in perfect condition in mid sept. The other commenters must have been country club snobs or played in a drought. I have rarely seen any public course let alone a township owned one in this great of shape particularly so late in the year. The greens are watered daily and properly protected. Some greens were almost too slow because of how well grown the grass was, and that saved me from rolling off if I had a challenging downhill put. And for about $1 per hole you really can't beat it. Club rentals are $8 for the round. I suggest you bring your own though, because paying $8 for a used set of odd clubs may affect your ability to play to the correct yardage at times. Most of the tees are a good 8-iron or pitching wedge distance but unfortunately they only rent out a set of 3/5/7/9/S and putter.
If you are a straight player the course will be easy enough but the windy conditions will test you. Slicers have several out of bounds plays to be aware of, but the course is short enough to lay up a 7 iron and get on in two if you want to play more conservatively.
Great for a beginner like me or little kids! Very unkempt course though and I would say a good half day activity for adults that don't want to hit up the beach the whole day.
Located right next to the municipal airport back on Bay Ave. Ocean City Municipal Golf Course is great to kill an afternoon if its not quite beach weather on your summer vacation. If you have had a few to many rounds of mini golf here in Ocean City and need to open it up a little bit, but don't want to go far or pay a big greens fee then Ocean City Municipal Golf Course with do the trick. This 12 hole par 3 course is not awesomely maintained and the greens are more like fairways so all that mini golf practice may actually help our short game. The longest hole in #10 which goes along that back right next to the runway for the municipal airport, it about 200 yards straight on so if you were dying to smash wood this is your chance. For $12 its a great value to get out and whack a few balls around, but do not expect anything amazing or you will be disappointed.
