My girlfriend and I did the sunset golf cart tour on our vacation. For forty dollars, it was the best money spent on our trip. The staff was INCREDIBLE = so helpful & accomidating. Doug, one of the managers, was so helpful & treated us like members with such great service. The course was AMAZING & the views were breathe taking. The sunset from the 7th hole with a champagne toast was the cherry on top of a great date. On our next trip here, we will have to play a round at this amazing, picturesque course with the best staff there is.
Gorgeous course. We played 18-holes here and had a spectacular time. There are two holes where you can hit over the ocean! Beautiful scenic views on Hole 3. Savor it.
If you're staying at St. Regis, kids play free with adults, with free club rentals. Pretty sweet. Our golf carts had a GPS that could tell us exactly how far we were from the holes and offered tips while we were navigating the course.
If you're golfing as a family, they have a set of wooden tees you can take with you to set up wherever you want.
Our time here was perfect. And we saw some chickens running around! We will definitely be back!
Great experience, the recently renovated course is in excellent shape. The staff are super friendly and the practice area superior. I just got back from Kauai stayed a month so I had the time to play the course 8 different times. Big fairways and lots of bunkers around the greens. Views are spectacular. Greens are true but have subtle breaks in them, not overly fast. If you read the breaks correctly your ball will fall in the hole. I played with a variety of people all were fun to play with. The starters are very knowledgable on who to send out so speed of play is not affected in any way. They do have marshalls to keep tabs on your staying within the time given to play the course. That would be 4hours and fifteen minutes more than fair. The carts have up to date GPS and you will always know exactly how far your next shot is and what is ahead of you. All the newest technology is in the GPS. If you go over to Kauai make Makai a must.
Let me start off by saying if I could, I would give this course 4.5 stars. It was almost perfect, but in my book almost percect does not equal 5 stars. As for the course was beautiful, yet very challenging. They said this is easier than the nearby Princeville Golf Club, but if that's true, Princeville must be one of the most challenging courses in Hawaii. As for the Princeville Makai course, the overall experience is impeccable. You drive up to the bag drop and they strap your bag to a cart and offer you free balls to hit on their beautiful grass range. They also have a nice chipping/putting green. Now, when you're on the course, the first thing you notice is the amount of bunkers on the course. I think there were six bunkers alone on the first hole! They were all beautifully maintained, but they were deep, especially some of the fairway bunkers. The course also had lots of elevation change, such as the third hole, a par three over a pond that goes downhill about thirty yards. Another amazing hole was number 14, with bunkers lining the entire hole and a tee shot over the ocean. The most beautiful hole on the course, and the most spectacular hole I've ever played was number 7. It is a par three with the tee shot requiring you to carry the ocean all the way to the shallow green. You are on a cliff overlooking the mountains and the deep blue ocean. That hole alone makes the round worth it. There was one negative though. The first one was that although the greens were smooth, they did not roll true. I had many short putts that did not go in because the putt did not break as the slope indicated it would. This is frustrating because this course is not cheap to play and you would think that the greenkeepers could make the greens roll true.
The Princeville Makai course is in excellent condition. The grass on the tee boxes, fairways, and greens is lush and perfectly manicured. The course condition is flawless, as you would expect with only the most expensive resort courses. The fairways are wide, but a lot of holes are heavily bunkered. The bunkers are in pristine condition. Some of the bunkers protecting the greens are steep and challenging. The views, especially at number 3 and 7 are spectacular. I rented clubs, and they gave me new Callaway X2 Hot clubs, better than what I have at home. This service was excellent. This was an exceptional golfing experience.
