Finkbine Golf Course

  3 Reviews

Standard driving range, and since I'm a sucker for golf, it's a default 4 stars to start.   Hit some range balls with my pops since we came out here for sister's graduation and had a good time.

Only complaint is that the pro shop is far from the driving range making it difficult for newbies to the area.  The locals probably stock up on range coins.

Great Course, Great Condition but they know it & charge for it!
It's a little discouraging that they charge $50+/round in April & May & it's still pretty cold & windy outside.
Don't get me wrong, I think it's definitely worth the money but if they dropped their prices $10 they would get more business (maybe that's why they don't)?
It's a University Course & they have a certain 'image' to uphold.
The only times that I get to enjoy this course is for Business Outings & The Amateur Open in August. (3-4 times per year)
Their driving range is great & has a lot to offer but I wish the clubhouse was a little closer to buy tokens. It's such a process to park your car, go get a token, get your clubs, get a bucket of balls & then set up shop on the range.

Finkbine is the University of Iowa's 18 hole golf course. Located in the heart of the city and just off campus, this course is one to write home about! The par 72 course plays 7100+ yards from the tips w/ a course rating of 74.1 and slope rating of 132. The holes are consistently challenging and make the player think about each shot. The course is surrounded on all sides by roads, but feels very secluded due to the hefty trees that reside here!

The course has a good amount of hills, but isn't so hilly that a cart is necessary. It's a great course to walk and on a nice Spring afternoon is hard to beat.  The range is ample and a number of practices holes and greens are located just outside the club house.

The eatery upstairs serves standard golf fare w/ a surprisingly good BBQ sandwich to boot!  A couple of beverage carts circle the paths and will meet you every 3-4 holes. Water is provided on the course and a number of restrooms are located in strategic areas!

Range balls are $3 a bucket and club rentals are $30/round and include a sleeve of balls.

The rates are very reasonable for what you get and the twilight rate is seriuosly awesome!  If you're looking for a place to come practice, golf with friends or just come and ruin a nice day, this is a good place to do so!
