Great course to putt on if you like a challenge.
Good course to practice putting on.
I played this course for the first time this month and all the greens are different. Like the previous reviewer said, there's never a flat putt. The openness off the tees is very forgiving for errant shots and you can usually recover very well. The scenery on the back nine is beautiful, looking east at RI hills of trees as far as you can see (in the fall when the trees are changing over it would be beautiful). This summer we have had very little rain, and for an area course it was very well maintained. The fairways were green as well as most of the ruff. The greens were plush and balls checked and stopped with no issues.
All in all, I will add it to my play-it-again list and look forward to it.
Fenner Hill is an interesting golf course. It's fairly open off the tees on the front nine and tightens up slightly on the back. The greens at this course are usually in nice shape but are extremely undulating, almost to the point of obsurdity. 9th green is heavily tiered. So much so that if you're on the top tier and the hole is on the bottom tier there is almost no way to keep your ball on the green. Same is true for the 18th hole. Very rarely is there a flat putt. Some hole locations just don't reward good golf. There are some very good holes here though. Great risk/reward par 4 15th. Course is always in nice shape.
