As it goes, this is truly one of northern Minnesota's best kept secrets. Two distinctively different nines are both scorable yet penal if you're off in certain areas. The front side is highlighted by a few drivable par 4's that can turn into bogeys very quickly, as well as two back-to-back par 5's with numerous hazards of their own. The back is woven amidst the abundant pine, ash, and birch trees which leave you feeling as if you may be the only players on the course. To it's credit, there isn't a home on the property save for one tucked away on #4.  The latter nine is quite a bit more difficult, in large part due to the difficult-to-read winds often faced in the woods, as well as the fact that there are three par 3s and a multitude of hazards. The course is truly one of the greatest examples of risk-reward playability, in that bold moves off the tee can result in stellar scores should they end up in the right place. To the contrary, there are hazards set in place to protect the 6600+ yard layout design, and protect they do.  Water comes into play on 11 holes, while doglegs and narrow tee shots make the course play quite a bit longer.

The course has a bevy of fun events in the summer for participants of every level to enjoy.  It hosts a few scrambles, benefits, memorial tournaments, an invitational, as well as the standard club championship for men and women, as well as a senior club championship.  It may also be the most junior-friendly golf course in the state of Minnesota, with PGA Professional Tom O'Connell's relentless commitment to having accessibility to the game of golf for kids of all backgrounds. O'Connell typically hosts three 3-day junior 'camps' a summer with kids ranging from 4-14 years old, and also created a Junior Tournament to provide fun and prizes for the adolescent golfers.  Growing the game you can tell he loves so much is at the heart of O'Connell, whose background and accolades within the golfing community, both for teaching and playing alike, are nothing short of impressive.

All in all, this is a spectacular golf course to grow one's game or to develop it in a positive, enjoyable environment.  Next time you're up enjoying Rainy Lake and Northern Minnesota's god's country allure, stop by Falls CC for a spectacular day of golf.
