Golf course review only:
Gorgeous golf course! The course has a great mix of doglegs, short holes, long holes, etc. The greens ran very well and the course was in great shape. Very cool finishing par 5 that makes you think, especially on your second shot.
Walkable-ish. The driving range is a long way from the clubhouse, but the practice facilities in general are vast and well maintained. Huge driving range with good grass, a decent sized chipping green with 3-4 bunkers surrounding it. Two putting greens as well; one adjacent to the clubhouse and a much bigger one afar with the rest of the practice facility.
We have belonged to ECC for almost 2 years and we really are enjoying our membership. We have a toddler who loves the pool and kids activities such as brunch with Santa, gingerbread making party, summer pool parties, swim team and jr. swim team. My husband and I enjoy the challenging golf course. The food is great at the restaurant and it is a great place to host a corporate event or wedding. My favorite celebration at the club is the big 4th of July party (usually held the day before): great fireworks, music, moon bounce, great food. It is a wonderful family atmosphere and the members are really nice.
This country club is located on the western side of RT 15 just north of RT 66 in Haymarket, VA. The clubhouse is new and nicely appointed. Nothing fancy, but very nice. The beer girl was extremely cute and very friendly.
The golf course is awesome! Beautiful Virginia countryside views at the base of the mountain. Deer, turkeys, fox, groundhogs, red-tailed hawks, and a black racer snake -- we saw them all today. I really enjoyed this course. The holes were beautiful and I don't think I'd change any of the layout. The tees and fairways were bent grass and in great condition although many of the tees need to be re-graded as you routinely end up with the ball a few inches above or below your feet. The greens were firm and in OK shape having just been micro-tine aerated. There were a few greens that had some damage, but for the most part they rolled fast and true. Some of the holes on the back nine would benefit from better sprinkler coverage as the rough was dried out not too far off the fairway. 18 is a challenging par 5 with two ponds coming into play. I yanked my drive into the rough, laid up short of the first pond with an 8 iron, and had 215 left into the wind. Choked down on a 3 wood and came over the top hitting the left side of the green and ending up in the pond that guards the left side of the green making double and ruined a nice round.
Pretty much my only criticism and area that needs improvement are the sand traps. They were typically shallow and had an insufficient amount of sand in them. Could be that over time dirt had been mixed in with the sand and become compacted, but there were some large rocks in a few of them so I'm pretty sure they were just too shallow and probably need a liner and drainage installed.
Not too much more to say other than I can't wait to go back!!!
