We arrived in the place was packed. We were able to get some snacks and a couple of drinks. Our waitress was very kind to us.
I played 18 at Derryfield Country Club today. It was a Monday early in the season. Although it was a beautiful day I was still able to walk on with no tee time and play as a single. It was $43 dollars to walk 18. There were 4 temporary greens out there if I remember correctly, and some of the holes were pretty patchy and/or soggy. Others were about as good as you can expect at this point in the season.
If this course played as it appears on the scorecard it would be quite boring to play. However, it is extremely hilly which makes it quite a bit tougher than you would think. You definitely find yourself having to play some interesting shots throughout your round. For the most part it is fairly open. I play with a horrible slice at times and if I didn't lose too many balls out there most golfers won't either.
The greens were recently punched when I played which always makes for an adventure. I can't really give an accurate assessment of the greens because of that. Its a necessary evil that you just have to deal with sometimes. For the most part though, they seemed relatively tame.
After your round there is a really great outdoor deck that sits high overlooking the course. There is a 360 degree covered outdoor bar on the deck which is really cool. I would go there for a beer even without the golf.
Overall not a bad day of golf. I expect the course to be in much better shape as the season goes on. It's a little rough right now. If I were them I would maybe offer a deal. Kind of sucks to pay full freight when you have temporary greens out there. Next time I would probably take a cart. I usually don't mind walking but this place is really hilly.
Derryfield is a good course in the middle of a busy city. The rates are reasonable and the wait is usually ok. Another commenter mentioned the youth here; I am a fan of kids playing, but not when they don't understand etiquette and manners. It's currently undergoing some major work so there were only 9 holes open this past weekend, but it's still fun to play here. The hills make it a tough course for beginners, which can be good for the player to step up their game! Sunday afternoons and after work during the week are GREAT times to play here.
Derryfield Country Club is much more than a great golf course. My association just sponsored a code update seminar which Derryfield hosted in their conference room, what an outstanding experience! We had 150 members attend over a two day period and Derryfield's staff handled lunch, coffee, and tons of other details that all exceeded our expectations. The room was clean modern (and perfect) and the staff was outstanding! Caroline is amazing, attentive, and fantastic to work with, all the staffers are hard working and had smiles on their faces all day. Several of our members complimented us on the event and we really feel great about our decision to work with Derryfield. It is easy to look good when you have a great room and work with such a professional staff. Thank you Derryfield, and special thanks to Caroline and Kelly you are the best!
Fab bands on the deck! Superb food! Great prices! Attentive staff! I love this place!
