Great happy hour after golf! Beautiful course--weather is spectacular so every day is a great day there.
Walked on to the course on a Wednesday and was lucky to get a tee-time.
The course is just a hop, skip and a jump from Hotel Del and I would highly recommend it. It was a gorgeous day with a slight breeze and relatively low humidity. The course is not extraordinarily challenging, but has its moments. I lost one ball in the water and another one because I stupidly forgot to pick it up. The day we played, the fairways were soft and the greens were fast. The slight breeze grabbed the drives that went higher into the air, but since I play low this wasn't as much of a problem for me.
I was paired with 3 other singles and the Starter does a great job keeping everyone organized and on task. The course typically takes 4-1/2 hours for a full round and we would have been on track for that, but for the group in front of us. It took us just shy of 5 hours under the circumstances.
The scenery and the price can't be beat. This is one of the most beautiful CA muni courses I've played at, the other being in Pacific Grove at the lighthouse. There are views of the bay and the bridge from many of the holes. You do need to be mindful of your aim when playing parallel to the street because you are at risk of hitting people, their cars and/or their homes. Signs inform you that the consequences of your shot are your responsibility.
The restaurant has nice views of the course and the bay, and the fare is typical. The Hollandaise on the Eggs Benedict was nothing to write home about, but was good, nonetheless. My waitress was "distracted" (so she told me) and my order for tea came back as coffee and the potatoes turned into fruit. But, she quickly rectified the situation and was pleasant enough. The young men in the pro shop were helpful and friendly. They seem to really enjoy working at Coronado Golf Course.
Would I golf here again? In a heartbeat! But be prepared, it may not be as easy to get a tee-time because this is a popular course.
Great golf course! course was in excellent shape! New golf carts too! Nice selection of merchandise in the proshop. Staff was friendly...got the buddies together for some golf and we had a blast. But I have to say, the restaurant service was HORRIBLE! We called in our food at a phone before making the turn and had to wait FOREVER to get it? The group behind us caught up to us and tried to play through! What's the point of calling in your order if there is zero chance of it being ready? When we finished, we sat on the patio overlooking the 18th. green. what a nice view, again though when we tried to get some SERVICE we were told by the bartender "oh we don't serve out there." huh? What a joke. Best view on the property and you can't get somebody to wait on you? These guys need to have their heads examined.
Beautiful course with great views. But unless you're a San Diego resident, forget walking on as a single. The staff, in particular the starter, doesn't really want you there.
My sister had her wedding reception at the Bayside Grill in the Coronado Golf Course. The location is beautiful. The service was GREAT! Dorene, the event manager, is WONDERFUL to work with - always there to answer questions and help with what was needed to be done! The food was DELICIOUS! GREAT VALUE FOR THE PRICE! You won't go bankrupt having your reception here! Thank you for making my sister's wedding reception the BEST ever!
