A nice 9 hole course in West Hartford. Moderately challenging, cheap ($12 for WH residents), and rarely crowded on the weekends. Some of holes are tightly spaced, so beware of stray balls. Overall a good place for beginners or those looking to get a quick round in.
As someone who just picked up golf a year ago, Im a fan of this nice little executive course. We just went on an 80 degree Sunday in June and were able to walk right on. Its $17 for 9 holes and a pull cart if oure a non-resident. West Hartford residents save a couple bucks.
You start out with a dog leg left. A couple of the greens have more challenging pitches, and you find a god assorment of short and long holes considering its only 9. On one hole you even hit over a large gully. Theres a few sand traps, no water.
The one downside is that the course can get a bit soggy. If its rained heavily in recent days, you might want to give the a call to see how much water stuck around. Its across the street from a lake/pond so the water table is pretty high around some of the lower holes.
The older gentlemen that are usually running the office are very sweet and helpful. We pack some beers in our bag and have a nice couple hours out there. Be prepared to walk across the parking lot a ways for bathrooms in the nearby rec facility.
Executive course - no par 5's, but you can pull your driver out on 4 or 5 holes... $12 for residents on the weekend in peak season - can't beat the price. Great for working on your Iron and short game. It has enough challenges and great to get out and walk a bit.
For a quick, inexpensive round of golf, this is perfect. I am fairly aweful at golf, so this place is a nice mix of challenging enough, but never frustrating to the point where you want to introduce your 9 iron to the duck pond.
Great place to go, you can walk the whole course easily. Great practice course and people that go there are very relaxed so you won't get rushed through.
